Munnar is one of the interesting places of scenic as well as cultural interest in Kerala. As Munnar was once colonized and it was also a British holiday destination, one can still notice the remains of the British culture. Munnar is supposedly the most traveled adventure tour destination of Kerala, because of the terrains and landscapes of the area. The altitude varies from one place to another, between 200 m and 2600 m. This gives Munnar dynamic weather setting, along with a highly gorgeous and scenic landscape. Due to its diverse landscapes and ever dynamic weather, Munnar is at times called "Switzerland of India".
Munnar hill station is perfectly suitable for trekking, as the topography of the place supports the trekking conditions. Anamudi, the tallest peak of the south India with height of over 2695 m, is the best place for trekking in Munnar. While trekking, one can walk through misty clouds which hang real low due to high humidity, low temperature and low pressure.
As Munnar is situated at the convergence of three mountain streams -Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala, it is blessed with splendid beauty. It is located at an elevation of 1600 m above sea level. This is the reason why it was the summer resort of the erstwhile British government in South India. Extensive tea plantations, snaky tracks, picture perfect towns and incessant holiday facilities make Munnar a popular tourist attraction in Kerala. Munnar enjoys a chilly climate, with the temperature ranging from 10 °C to 0 °C. 'Neelakurinji' is one among the exotic flora found in the forests and grasslands of Munnar.
The rainy seasons are gracefully amiable in Munnar, as even with a little downpour many small streams and rivulets rejuvenate themselves. The plantations of tea and coffee, which are the chief cash crops in Munnar, look very appealing early in winter mornings and just after rainfall, as they are covered with dew drops. Munnar never lost its charm - be it during the days it was colonized or the present times. Today, the place has become quiet easily accessible. Still, it is not crowded like other hill stations.
Munnar is one of the popular hill stations and a must-visit destinations in Kerala.
