The Thusharagiri Waterfalls is one of the major waterfalls in Kerala. Nestled snugly in the Western Ghats are the gurgling waterfalls of Thusharagiri. Thusharagiri literally means the snow capped mountains. Thushargiri waterfalls display an exceptional relationship between the land, the lush greens and water. There are three waterfalls constituting the Thusharagiri Waterfalls with the backdrop of the beautiful Western Ghats. The best time to visit these roaring waterfalls is from the month of September till November, as during these months the waterfalls are at its peak flows. The waterfall with its gentle spray is ought to soothe every eye. Interesting part of this waterfall is that two streams which originate from the heights of the Western Ghats meet at this place to form the Chalippuzha River. The river then splits it into three waterfalls creating a snowy spray forming due to the alleviation, which gives these waterfalls the name, 'Thusharagiri'. Out of these three waterfalls the highest one is the Thenpara that has an elevation of about 75 metres.
Situated at Kodencherry in Kozhikode district, the cultivated area of this part of the forest thrives with the plantation of rubber, areca nut, pepper, ginger and spices. The place is also a trekker's hub. Trekker's start their trek quite early in the morning. They start their trek from the second waterfalls at the hills and then climb up through the immaculate dense evergreen forests. Then the trek teems up with watching exotic birds and animals while reaching Vythiri and Waynad district by evening. The place offers challenging trekking and rock-climbing through river path and numerous waterfalls. It is a place which exonerates beauty, calm, and serenity. The beautiful waterfalls sooth and calm down the nerves of the visitors as water falling from that height sprinkles and soothes down the visitor. The place also has a crocodile farm which is managed by the state forest department. In all, this is one of the tranquil places of Wayanad which is in all aspects perfect for an ideal vacation. As, it is easy to reach this spot through all means of transport. The place registers huge tourist traffic during peak seasons. The area is a heaven for nature lover as it offers a number of activities which attracts a nature lover.
