Situated on the north east part of the beautiful district of Palakkad, Attappady (Attappadi) is a stunning forest area in Kerala. Attappady Forest is surrounded with lush green and hills in almost all sides. Spread over an area of 827 sq. km, the best time to visit Attappady Forest is from September to May. The place is located amidst the quaint and sloping Western Ghats.
Topography
The unscathed beauty of Attappady Forest is further highlighted by numerous rivulets of the Bhavani River, which come out of a number of places. The sprawling Attapaddy Forest is home to the largest tribal settlement in Kerala. The tribal area of the forest is well connected to the neighboring towns. The hilly highland terrain, which forms the Topography of Attappady, is irrigated by the tributaries of the River Cauvery.
Flora and Fauna
Attapady forest is inhabited mainly by tribes like the Irolas and Mudugars, as well as people who long back migrated from the nearby state - Tamil Nadu. A beautiful synthesis of mountains and lush green scenery, this forest area is of great interest to anthropologists, as this is the habitat of many tribes. Numerous varieties of native and migratory birds live in complete harmony amidst the tribal people of Attappadi. The forest is thickly populated with large variety of exotic vegetation and flora.

The Malleshwaram peak of Attappady is worshipped as a huge Shivalinga, by the tribal people. They celebrate the festival of Shivratri with great pomp and show at the hill. The tribals celebrate the festival by illuminating the top of this peak.
